chinese bamboo tea caddy 19th c. these are very rareone very similar was sold at auction in canada fine asian works or art by shumas auction on the 7th june, 2008 for 1400 usd. this one was not signed.carved cylindrical bamboo box, with a carved decoration of phoenix and scholars amongst foliage. the interior is lined with what i believe is zinc. carved rosewood floral finial.the box is in wonderful condition considering its age. the only thing worth mentioning is that the zinclining in the lid has some tiny perforations. other than that it is near perfect condition. there are only a few tiny age related cracks in the bamboo, but nothing to speak of. no damage to report.the box stands 17cm high x 11.5cm wide.signed by the maker on the base.a must for oriental amp tea caddy collectors.sale collectible

rare antique french louis xv longcase clock ca 1740 color indeed a rare french antique longcase clock… crafted circa 1740 during the rule of louis xv of france. i have posted a picture of louis xv so that you can imagine the period of time in history when this clock was made. louis xv ruled as king of france and of from 1 september 1715 until his death on 10 may 1774. coming to the throne at the age of five, louis initially reigned with the help of trusted aids until he took formal personal control of the government of france on his thirteenth birthday, 15 february 1723. unexpectedly surviving the death of most of the royal family between 1711-1715, which saw the deaths of louis xiv and the three following members of the line of succession, louis xv enjoyed a favourable reputation at the beginning of his reign and earned the epithet le bien-aim the beloved. in time, his lack of morals, general inability to effectively reform france and the monarchy, and the perceived failings of his foreign policy caused him to lose the admiration of his subjects and when he died he was one of the most unpopular kings of france. his failures in multiple wars and his bad financial policies damaged the power of france, weakened the treasury, discredited the monarchy, and led to the french revolution which broke out 15 years after his death. those who collect antique clocks understand that the minute hand was not standard on clocks until about 1775, although some were still produced with only the hour hand until 1820. longcase clock dials for example, began to add the minute dots between the hour numbers around 1785. also, until about 1820, many clocks still used wooden movements as brass movements were considered too expensive at the time. a 30-hour brass movement found in many antique clocks did not begin to replace wood until the 1830s and within 10 years had replaced almost all of the wood movements in most clocks. so if you ever see an antique clock with just an hour hand, inspecollectible collecting price

a framed original watercolour by mabel lucie attwell british 1879-1964. this watercolour is boo boo elfs and is signed lower right. the watercolour measures 35 cm by 25 cm and the frame measures 40 cm by 50 cm. an insurance valuation for 5,500 from david freeman antique valuations is attached to the back. these elfs watercolours by mabel lucie attwell are rare as most at auction are of the chubby faced children. a similar but smaller watercolour by mla of a boy playing with pixies and elves in the moonlight sold at christies, london for 4988 in december 2001. in excellent condition.collecting craft collecting
